After the Storm
The Midwest is prone to tumultuous year-round weather, including
tornadoes, high winds, hail and high-volume rains. Not surprisingly, each
storm weakens the integrity of your roof. Sometimes, the interior signs
take time to appear, so make it a habit to do a minor self-inspection of
your commercial or residential roof after each storm.
These are some obvious signs of damage:
► Ponding water
► Missing shingles
► Damage to or cracked sealant along parapet walls
► Missing cap covers on chimneys or venting systems
► Flashing that is not flush with the roof’s surface
► Damage to soffits
► Missing doors on HVAC units
► Clogged roof drains and gutters
► Uplifted roof systems no longer fully attached
► Loose membrane

Caution: Storm Chasers
In the wake of a storm, a flurry of so-called “storm chasers” step into action willing to work on roof or home repairs. Often these roofing crews present unbeatable bids that are quite appealing. However, the low bids come with an increased risk to you. Because these crews are often unlicensed, uninsured and not bonded, they can leave the job incomplete or not deliver quality work without many repercussions. Further, if someone is hurt while working on your roof, the onus of payment for medical attention will fall onto your homeowner’s insurance, or worse, the hurt worker could sue.
Taylor Roofing is a bonded, licensed and insured company with a history of dedicated service in your community. You can expect professional work, quality materials and a sound investment when you work with Taylor Roofing.

Taylor Roofing Hires Rick Klene
In July 2009, Taylor Roofing welcomed Rick Klene as the new executive vice president. His role includes acting as chief financial officer and working in conjunction with Taylor Roofing President Catherine Taylor-Yank as chief operating officer. Taylor Roofing is a woman-owned business headquartered in Belleville, Ill., servicing the St. Louis metro region and southwestern Illinois.
“Rick brings a strong background in financial and project management, which are key to Taylor Roofing’s continued growth in the St. Louis metro region,” said Taylor-Yank. “His contributions are already producing results at the highest tiers of the company.”
Prior to Taylor Roofing, Klene was executive vice president at Meadowbrook Farms Cooperative where he started in 2002 as a chief financial officer working to coordinate federal and state grant submissions. During his tenure with Meadowbrook, Klene oversaw construction of the company’s $28 million, state-of-the art hog processing facility in Rantoul, Ill.
Klene was also the chief financial officer of U.S. Title Guaranty Company of St. Louis,
St. Charles, Washington and Lincoln counties in Missouri from 2000 through 2002. In this role, he supervised construction disbursement departments for all residential and commercial projects.
From 1990 to 1999, Rick served as controller for one of the nation’s largest independently-owned Pepsi bottling companies.
“Taylor Roofing is a growing company that allows me the opportunity to maximize my talents as both a financial officer and as a project manager,” said Klene. “Joining such a dedicated team that can profit from my skills is really exciting.”

Recommended: Twice-Annual Inspections
While some storm damage to a roof is as obvious as a broken bone, other
roof ailments can be as innocuous as a bruise. To maintain the long-term
integrity of your commercial roof, twice-annual, professional inspections
are recommended. You don’t let your kids miss their annual check-up,
and you are certain to change the oil in your car. Your commercial roof
deserves the same attention to ensure its longevity and to prevent small
problems from becoming expensive big problems.

Maintenance Program.
