Weith as its new Business Development Director. Weith dedicated more than 30 years to community service with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department where he graduated up the ranks from Corrections Officer to Undersheriff, Lt. Colonel.

“Mel brings invaluable community connections to his business development role at Taylor Roofing,” said Catherine Taylor Yank, owner of Taylor Roofing. “His community service background is full of financial management and event planning expertise that are assets when working in business development.”

While at the Sheriff’s Department, Weith’s accomplishments included successfully improving internal operations – recruitment, personnel, union and vendor contract negotiations, $10 million budget, community relations and financial planning. He also administered the successful implementation of the following programs: Stranger Danger, D.A.R.E., Explorer Post 555, Neighborhood Watch and Juvenile Diversion Programs. He also earned a graduate degree from the FBI National Academy and the National Sheriff’s Institute at the FBI National Academy.

“I’ve naturally gravitated to leadership and business development roles throughout my career at the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and with the community organizations I’ve served,” said Weith. “I’m excited about my transition to Taylor Roofing and expanding my skills in maintaining and developing its client base.”

Weith is also an active member of the southwestern Illinois area serving in executive roles for the Rotary International District 6510, the Okaw Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, Backstoppers, Inc., the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation in Illinois, plus many more.

“Mel is an exciting and transformative addition to the Taylor Roofing team,” said Yank. “He brings valuable expertise that will help our company continue to grow and succeed in a difficult economic climate.”

As environmental conservation grows, more and more local buildings are incorporating Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. But this is not a standard just being applied to new construction. Instead, institutions such as Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) are updating older buildings with LEED ideas, including the Green Roof terrace installed by Taylor Roofing this fall at Rendleman Hall.

The terrace was formerly an unappealling rooftop that was highly visible from the Chancellor’s office and the building’s atrium. Taylor Roofing’s Green Roof transformed the space into a functional and welcoming entertainment area that is visually appealing from high-traffic points in Rendleman Hall and works to increase the decades-old building’s energy efficiency.

“SIUE is making an effort to make changes that save energy,” said Ralph Hall, project manager for William B. Ittner, Inc., who oversaw the Green Roof project. “The terrace area is designed with native plants to keep color on the rooftop through all seasons.”

The Carlisle Roof Garden system used on the project is several layers thick and includes a roof garden drainage composite, root barrier, protection fabric, aluminum roof garden edging, aluminum drain boxes and roof garden growth media. Each green roof system varies in its depth. Below is a graphic example of a medium density Green Roof.

“We are seeing an increasing demand for environmentally friendly roofing systems, such as the Green Roof at SIUE,” said Catherine Taylor Yank, president and owner of Taylor Roofing. “It’s exciting to be at the forefront of these innovative roofing technologies.”

The benefits of roof gardens include:
- Reduction in urban-heat-island effects
- Improved storm-water run-off management
- Increased property valuable & useable space
- Reduced rooftop noise infiltration
- Year-round energy efficiency
- Air and water purification

Call Taylor Roofing today at (618) 233.2424 to learn more about green roof options.

► Flashing that is not flush with the roof’s surface
Often these roofing crews present unbeatable bids that are quite appealing. However, the low bids come with an increased risk to you. Because these crews are often unlicensed, uninsured and not bonded, they can leave the job incomplete or not deliver quality work without many repercussions. Further, if someone is hurt while working on your roof, the onus of payment for medical attention will fall onto your homeowner’s insurance, or worse, the hurt worker could sue.

Taylor Roofing is a bonded, licensed and insured company with a history of dedicated service in your community. You can expect professional work, quality materials and a sound investment when you work with Taylor Roofing.

His role includes acting as chief financial officer and working in conjunction with Taylor Roofing President Catherine Taylor-Yank as chief operating officer. Taylor Roofing is a woman-owned business headquartered in Belleville, Ill., servicing the St. Louis metro region and southwestern Illinois.

“Rick brings a strong background in financial and project management, which are key to Taylor Roofing’s continued growth in the St. Louis metro region,” said Taylor-Yank. “His contributions are already producing results at the highest tiers of the company.”

Prior to Taylor Roofing, Klene was executive vice president at Meadowbrook Farms Cooperative where he started in 2002 as a chief financial officer working to coordinate federal and state grant submissions. During his tenure with Meadowbrook, Klene oversaw construction of the company’s $28 million, state-of-the art hog processing facility in Rantoul, Ill.

Klene was also the chief financial officer of U.S. Title Guaranty Company of St. Louis,
St. Charles, Washington and Lincoln counties in Missouri from 2000 through 2002. In this role, he supervised construction disbursement departments for all residential and commercial projects.
From 1990 to 1999, Rick served as controller for one of the nation’s largest independently-owned Pepsi bottling companies.

“Taylor Roofing is a growing company that allows me the opportunity to maximize my talents as both a financial officer and as a project manager,” said Klene. “Joining such a dedicated team that can profit from my skills is really exciting.”

As the end of summer nears, we are preparing to begin several large projects, including SIU- Edwardsville’s Rendleman and Dunham Halls and the St. Clair Housing Authority in Belleville, Ill. Please let us know if you need roof inspections or repairs before fall arrives.
